We respect your privacy and are committed to handling all information entrusted to us with integrity, confidentiality and care, consistent with the standards expected of an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and the professional ethics of the Bangladesh Bar Council. By using this website or engaging our services, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

  • Individuals or organisations who contact us for legal consultation;
  • Existing and former clients of the Chamber; and
  • Any person whose information we receive in the course of a legal matter, including opposing parties, witnesses or third parties referred to us.

This Policy does not apply to third-party websites linked from our site, and we are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

2. Information we collect

We collect information in the following ways:

2.1 Information you provide voluntarily

  • Your name, phone number, email address and mailing address;
  • The subject matter of your enquiry and any description of your legal matter;
  • Documents, agreements, notices, court papers or correspondence you share with us;
  • Identity documents, where required by law or for court filings.

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit our website, our hosting infrastructure may record standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, referring pages, and pages viewed. This information is used to maintain the security and performance of the site and is not linked to your identity unless combined with information you voluntarily provide.

2.3 Information from third parties

In the course of representing a client, we may receive information about you from courts, government offices, opposing counsel, banks, or other parties. We treat such information with the same confidentiality standards as information received directly from you.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect strictly for legitimate professional purposes, including:

  • To respond to your enquiry or request for consultation;
  • To advise you on your legal matter and represent you before courts or tribunals;
  • To prepare, file or defend legal documents on your behalf;
  • To comply with court orders, statutory obligations, and Bar Council requirements;
  • To maintain internal records of the Chamber for accounting and audit purposes; and
  • To improve the content and functionality of our website.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing or commercial purposes.

4. Advocate–client confidentiality

Communications between a client and an Advocate for the purpose of professional legal advice are protected under the laws of Bangladesh, including Section 126 of the Evidence Act, 1872, and the Canons of Professional Conduct framed under the Bangladesh Legal Practitioners and Bar Council Order, 1972.

Consistent with these protections, our Advocates and staff do not disclose any information obtained in the course of a professional engagement, except where:

  • You have given your informed consent;
  • Disclosure is required by an order of a competent court;
  • Disclosure is necessary to prevent a serious and imminent offence; or
  • Disclosure is required under an applicable law of Bangladesh.

5. Lawful basis and your consent

We process information only when there is a lawful basis to do so. That basis may be:

  • Your consent, given when you contact us or engage our services;
  • Performance of a professional engagement or contract with you;
  • Compliance with a legal or regulatory obligation; or
  • Our legitimate interest in running a professional law chamber and protecting its rights.

Where information is required by law or by a court, you may not be able to withdraw consent without affecting the Chamber’s ability to represent you.

6. When we share information

We do not disclose your information to third parties except in the following limited circumstances:

  • To partner Advocates, junior counsel, or district-level lawyers engaged with your consent to handle your matter;
  • To courts, tribunals, government offices and statutory bodies, where required for your legal matter;
  • To banks, auditors, or professional advisers of the Chamber, bound by confidentiality obligations;
  • To our web-hosting and IT service providers, strictly to operate the website;
  • Where required or permitted by law, court order, or regulatory authority.

7. Storage, security and retention

Your information is stored on secure servers and physical files maintained by the Chamber. We take reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect your information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. Access is limited to Advocates and staff who need the information to serve you.

We retain client information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, to comply with statutory and Bar Council record-keeping requirements, and to protect the Chamber in the event of any future legal claim. Once retention is no longer required, information is securely destroyed or anonymised.

While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we continuously work to protect the information entrusted to us.
